Kremlin-Commissioned Artwork Now Hangs in the White House
Trump portrait by Russian artist reveals a dramatic image of the former president, recently unveiled to the public. The portrait was a personal gift from Russian President Vladimir Putin. It now hangs in the Grand Foyer of the White House.
The artwork shows Trump moments after the failed assassination attempt at his July 2024 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Portrait by Nikas Safronov
Trump portrait by Russian artist Nikas Safronov, one of Russia’s leading painters, captures the former president in bold strokes. Known for capturing global figures like Pope Francis and Kim Jong Un, Safronov said unnamed individuals approached him to create the piece.
“At first, I didn’t know who commissioned it,” he told CNN. “But I understood it was something bigger. I decided not to take any payment.”
A Symbol of Strength
The portrait shows Trump raising a bloodied fist, with a scar visible on his face. The artist said he wanted to capture Trump’s strength, calling the moment one of bravery and unity.
“He didn’t retreat. He showed he is one with America,” Safronov said.
The image has since become a powerful symbol in Trump’s campaign. Supporters view it as a display of resilience.
Direct Call from Putin
Later, Safronov said President Putin contacted him directly. The Russian leader confirmed the portrait’s diplomatic purpose. “He told me the painting was important for improving relations with the U.S.,” the artist revealed.
Though the Kremlin has not released an official comment, Safronov’s account and CNN’s exclusive look confirm the portrait’s origins.
White House Display
The Trump portrait reportedly replaced Barack Obama’s official painting in the Grand Foyer. This move signals a dramatic shift in aesthetic — and political — tone inside the White House.
Whether the portrait will remain after 2025 remains to be seen.
