Sam’s Club store remodels will kick off a major expansion, as Walmart’s warehouse chain plans upgrades and new store openings. Walmart intends to rebuild all 600 of its current shops nationwide and open about 15 new ones year, according to CEO Chris Nicholas’ announcement during the company’s 2025 Investment Community Meeting.
What’s Driving the Transformation?
Nicholas called the move “one of the fastest, most scalable transformations happening in retail today,” highlighting the company’s goals of:
- Boosting membership numbers
- Enhancing both physical and digital capabilities
- Doubling sales and profits within the next 8 to 10 years
The transformation is aimed at elevating the member experience while supporting associates and modernizing the club infrastructure.
New Locations Coming in 2025
This fiscal year, two brand-new Sam’s Club stores will open in:
- Tempe, Arizona
- Lebanon, Tennessee
Both are first-time locations in these cities, marking continued geographic expansion.
Inside the Remodel: A New Shopping Experience
The remodels will replicate features from a revamped store in Grapevine, Texas, which reopened in late 2024 after tornado damage. That store introduced:
- A register-free shopping experience using Scan & Go
- High-top tables staffed by specialists for customer assistance
- Access to online exclusives and direct-to-doorstep shipping
- A sleek, digital-first layout aimed at reducing checkout lines
The remodeled system received positive feedback, with most members favoring the streamlined format within the first week.
Gazing Ahead
Sam’s Club’s goal of being “the world’s best club retailer” is in line with this bold ambition to reinvent the in-store experience. Sam’s Club is obviously making long-term investments by continuously expanding its fleet and opening additional locations.
