Met Gala 2025: Best Red Carpet Looks and Black Style Tribute

A Night of Fashion, Heritage, and Rain

Met Gala 2025 dazzled despite the gloomy sky, bringing glamour, creativity, and cultural respect to the blue-carpeted steps. With the theme “Tailored for You,” the event celebrated dandyism, Black tailoring, and the history of fashion as a vehicle for personal expression.

Inspired by Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, the Costume Institute’s newly launched exhibition, the event promoted bold menswear interpretations, elevating tradition and turning tailoring into storytelling.

Rihanna, Zendaya, and Janelle Monáe Own the Night

Rihanna stunned in a structural, all-black ensemble that balanced classic tailoring with modern silhouettes. Her dramatic cape echoed the evening’s tribute to strength and heritage.

Janelle Monáe stole the show with a “suit within a suit” ensemble—a long printed jacket mimicking a blazer and tie, later removed to reveal a real suit underneath, paired with a bowler hat and monocle spinning like a clock.

Zendaya, a perennial favorite at the Met Gala, wore a three-piece Louis Vuitton suit that combined elegance and precise workmanship. Her ensemble was a masterwork of menswear reimagining.

Dandyism Reimagined: From Doja Cat to Lupita Nyong’o

Doja Cat turned heads in a boxy, ’80s-style Marc Jacobs blazer. Lupita Nyong’o looked regal in aquamarine Chanel, finished with a chiffon cape and coordinating hat.

The red carpet showcased broader shoulders, bold lapels, and cultural references from the Harlem Renaissance to contemporary streetwear.

Men of the Moment: Bad Bunny, Regé-Jean Page, and Lewis Hamilton

The men embraced expressive suiting. Bad Bunny opted for a casual brown suit with a traditional Puerto Rican pava hat on top, Regé-Jean Page wore all red, and Henry Golding went for real gold.

In a little yet heartfelt gesture, event co-chair Lewis Hamilton honored André Leon Talley by wearing patent leather shoes.

Legacy and Lineage on Display

Icons and rising stars paid tribute to their personal and cultural histories. Diana Ross, returning to the Met Gala for the first time since 2003, wore a 60-pound gown embroidered with the names of her children and grandchildren.

Anne Hathaway and Colman Domingo gave a reference to André Leon Talley, while Gigi Hadid paid tribute to Zelda Wynn Valdes. Ayo Edebiri paid homage to the dapper guys in her family with her Ferragamo ensemble.

The Bottom Line: A Tailored Celebration of Black Style

From zoot suit references to futuristic tailoring, Met Gala 2025 embraced Black fashion history with reverence and flair. The theme provided space for both personal storytelling and collective celebration. This made it one of the most meaningful Met Galas to date.
